Foreclosures Continue!
Did you all here that foreclosures continue to go up? I was just reading on Yahoo that there were 220,000 homes lost to bank repossessions in the second quarter. This information is based on a housing market report Friday issued by RealtyTrac. That’s nearly 3 times the number from the same period in 2007. Now here’s some numbers to think about. There were a total of 739,714 foreclosure filings recorded during the same month period, which is up 14% from the first quarter. And up a whopping 121% from the same period in 2007. This breaks down to about one of every 171 U.S. households received a filing. Filings include notices of default, auction sale notices and bank repossessions. And in some areas the files are much higher. Hopefully there will be relief here soon. What we all need to do is take a breath and relax for awhile.
Military And NFL!
Do you all remember when the Detroit Lions drafted Caleb Campbell? He was the seventh-round draft pick for the Lions in this year’s draft. Now the U.S Military is changing their policy to place him back to full-time traditional military duties. The Army had a policy that would have let him take the role as a recruiter. The Army sent a letter to the Detroit Lions stating that Campbell would has been ordered to give up professional football. So he can server in more of an active Army role. The Army also stated that he could ask to be released in May of 2010. So I guess their will be no more players being drfted from the Army and Navy teams.
McDonald’s Stock Up!
McDonald’s – which is the world’s largest restaurant chain had a higher second-quarter profit than expected. They had a net income of $1.2 billion, which comes out to $1.04 per share. The same period last year they lost around $711 million. Now let me tell you the real reason why their stock will continue to rise. It’s a no brainier; no one can afford to eat out anymore. That dollar menu looks great after you just spend $100 to fill your car up. As long as gas prices remain high no one will be at those sit-down restaurants. It also seems like that eating off the dollar menu is cheaper than eating at home.
Tonight Show!
The date has been set for funnyman Jay Leno’s last show. His final show will be May 29, 2009. Now, if you didn’t know this already Jay Leno isn’t happy about this mandatory retirement plan. He really doesn’t want to call it quits yet. But the people in charge at NBC are set with forcing Leno to retire. The new host will be Conan O’Brien the Late Night Show host. He will be taking over some time in June 09. I personally think this whole thing sucks. Leno has been hosting for the Tonight Show for 17 years. I also thing Conan O’Brien will not do that great. He’s funny, but the stupid kind of funny, and that doesn’t last long. Oh well, I think Leno will find something else to do and NBC will regret forcing the retirement.
