Nebraska Safe-Haven Law!
The state of Nebraska passed a safe-haven law in July of this year. And they have already taken in 36 kids that have been dropped off by their parents. With this new law parents just simply show up at any hospital and drop their kids off. I totally agree with law, children should always be kept safe. But what I disagree about this law is that they just changed a loophole in it. The law stated that any child could be dropped off at any area hospital. The problem as the state sees it is that the children being dropped off at times where teenagers. So now the new law states that the child age is limited to infants no more than 30 days old. I feel every child should have a safe place to go. Hopefully Nebraska officials will have a plan for the older kids to find a safe place to go. Because if they don’t these kids will end up on the streets.
Doing Good!
As times get harder for a lot of us, there are other people in the world worse off than most of us. How many kids and families do you know that climb a mountain everyday to go through trash just to eat? I personally don’t know of one family that does this. But it’s happening everyday in places like Payatas, in the Philippines. If you’re interested in making Christmas For Payatas a reality then click on the link, you will be making a lot of familys happy. And while you’re visiting the site make sure you check out the youtube video posted. Now it’s time to do the right thing. As always make sure you research where your money goes when lending a helping hand.
The landfill in Payatas, The Philippines, is notoriously known the world over as Smokey Mountain. For over 35 years, the smoking dump site has grown to become a stark and heart-tugging reminder of the desperate onditions of humanity.
On a daily basis, children pick through newly arrived garbage to
collect material to sell. The earnings made by one child are not enough to even buy food for the day. Hence, entire families are forced to climb the mountain each day, hoping to earn enough to feed everyone. Children as young as four years old are forced to work in this daily struggle for survival.
In response to the plight of these children, Totedaddy.com is working with Lighthouse Center For Children Foundation to bring a little cheer to the children this Christmas.
Totedaddy.com has kicked off with a cash sponsorship of USD 10,000 to enable the children to celebrate Christmas. FusionExcel International has also pitched in a USD 5,000 in cash sponsorship. The money raised
will help fund the projects already in place, and help fund additional projects aimed at providing better housing, and a means of livelihood for the Payatas community.
It is hoped that by creating better awareness to the plight of these children, more support can be garnered towards their betterment. Together we can bury poverty!
