A true pioneer in TV news, Don Hewitt died today at the age of 86. He‘s the guy that created the show “60 Minutes“ in the 60’s. I read that he started with CBS in 1948, right when they where starting out. I also read that he produced 60 Minutes until 2004, that’s a long time. He also won 73 Emmys, 13 DuPont/Columbia University Awards and nine Peabody Awards with 60 Minutes. I sure would think that his idea for 60 Minutes was a great one. He’s also the guy that said “tell me a story”, an idea he got from kids. He will live on through his show, as well as other things he’s done. He was a true visionary, he’ll be missed by many people.

The owners of the “Freedom Tower” are going to market the building by it’s old name “One World Trade Center.” They have chosen to do this because their having trouble getting the building rented out. The biggest reason why the building isn’t getting rented out is because businesses are afraid of another attack. I was reading that even The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have admitted that their own workers do not want to return to the location. The reality of this building coming under attack again is very possible. But will it happen is anyone’s guess. The thing that makes this name change so sad is that this is what the terrorist wanted, us to be afraid. We need to not be afraid anymore and stand up to this fear. At this point they don’t even need to attack us again. As long as they know we’re afraid they win. So let’s stop being so afraid of these terrorist and keep the name “Freedom Tower” intact. The family members of the almost 3,000 people killed that day deserve it. Who cares about getting the building rented so fast, it will get rented. So I say do the right thing and leave the name set at “Freedom Tower.”

Recession Much Worse!

I have been hearing that it’s going to get much worst before it’s going to get better. I’m sure you’ve all heard it as well. And for the most part I hear it coming out of President Obamas mouth. I think he knows more than what he’s telling the American people, as well as the rest of the world. And I think a lot of people are starting to feel the same way.

As I was searching around the net today I came across a interview with Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital. He thinks if the U.S. government passes this new stimulus bill we will be in an “inflationary depression worse than anything any of us have ever seen.” He also thinks that if the U.S. government should stop borrowing and let the market take it’s course so we can come up with a new platform. Right now our economy is built on borrowing and spending. He thinks we need to build on saves and production, and I can’t agree with him more. We need to stop living the ways we are now and start making hard changes to save our economy. Because if we don’t, and the bond bubble pops there will be no more government borrowing, then what would we do? If the collapse of the dollar happens the U.S government will go broke, and then the rest of world will follow. It’s time to start saving, and build on a real economy, not a fake one.

Today the Federal Reserve cut its target for a key interest rate to the lowest level on record, .25 percent. The plan is to get banks lending and fight off the recession. I read that many analysts had expected the Fed to drop the rate to .5 percent. So by getting a zero to .25 percent rate this should be their gift this year. We’ve also have never seen a rate this low, the lowest ever was 1 percent. So I sure hope Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke knows what he’s doing, because a rate this low good cause other problems done the road.

Also, the U.S. Markets took in the good news with a spike upward in stocks. As I enjoyed the good news as well, seeing my stocks go up again. I just hope no other bad news come out over the next few day to drag the Markets back down. But I always think the worst will happen and fear the Markets will nose dive again, just how I am.

He’s visiting the U.S. Troops and to celebrate the recent U.S.-Iraq security agreement, which will have most of our troops home by the end of 2011. I was just wondering if President Bush was going to head back to Iraq. I’m glad that he choose to head back to see our troops and to give them a well deserve pat on the back. I think he would have looked pretty bad if he never went back to see the troops. This is one of his better choices in a long time.

It looks like Detroit’s Big Three Babies will be getting a little less than half of their bailout loan, $15 billion. GM, Ford and Chrysler will collapse with this amount of money, why even give it to them. I guess their calling this a short-term loan. I was reading that some economists think they really need $75 billion to $125 billion to survive over the next year. If these automakers had asked for this money a year ago Congress would have told them no way. The U.S Congress is only agreeing to this because we really can’t afford to lose anymore jobs as a Nation. I liked President Bush’s idea, just them the $25 billion already sitting there for them. The only think is the bill that gave them that money is for building cleaner running cars, but no one likes that idea. I say let all three fall apart, they deserve it. This way, by filing for bankruptcy it will break all contracts with the UAW. And then they could layoff every single employee, then hire them back at half their pay, they would save billions. These works are getting paid over $50 an hour just to make a car, that’s way to high, blame that on the UAW. The automakers would come out of bankruptcy so much stronger than trying to get these loans. Most if not all-big companies come out of bankruptcy much stronger. It’s like starting with a clean plate.

O.J. Simpson, one of the greatest running backs in the NFL has been sentence to serve 33 years in prison for kidnapping and armed robbery. But will he do that amount of time, don’t think so. The Judge had sentence him to 33 years but with the complex consecutive and concurrent sentences no one really knows how much time right yet. Here’s what a few national newspapers report. The New York Times reported 9 years, the Washington Post reported 15 years and the Los Angeles Times reported 16 years. So does anyone really know how much time he’s going to need to serve? O.J. didn’t say he was sorry to the Judge and victims today. He also said he “didn’t want to hurt anybody”. And he also said that he didn’t know what he was doing was wrong. I would like to ask him, what did you think you we’re doing? He also said he was somewhat “confused.” Most criminals will pretty much say anything in hopes that the Judge will change their mind. Judges rule with an iron fist and rarely change their mind. Anyway, Simpson is going to jail for awhile. He’s 61 years old; he may never be a free man again.

The state of Nebraska passed a safe-haven law in July of this year. And they have already taken in 36 kids that have been dropped off by their parents. With this new law parents just simply show up at any hospital and drop their kids off. I totally agree with law, children should always be kept safe. But what I disagree about this law is that they just changed a loophole in it. The law stated that any child could be dropped off at any area hospital. The problem as the state sees it is that the children being dropped off at times where teenagers. So now the new law states that the child age is limited to infants no more than 30 days old. I feel every child should have a safe place to go. Hopefully Nebraska officials will have a plan for the older kids to find a safe place to go. Because if they don’t these kids will end up on the streets.

What A Ride!

All the votes have been counted and we have our first black President of the United States of America. America has spoken and we made Barack Obama the 44th President of the United States. This race was the most historic race for the White House in America history. We had the black nominee for President and first female candidate, Sarah Palin for VP of the United States. And let’s not forget about Hilary Clinton, she was almost the first female candidate for President. And I would like to say that I’m so glade this race is finally over, 2 years is to long. And no matter whom you voted for its time for a fresh new start. America is the greatest nation on the face of this planet, and it’s time we act like it. We need to come together as one nation. We need to set aside on petty differences and unite around our new President. Not because it’s the popular thing to do, but because it’s the right think to do. If we fail at uniting as one nation we will remain in this free fall we’re in and things will only get worst. So it’s time to unite and begin our fresh new start.

Polls Closing!

With polls coming to a close it will now be a wait and see game. I still believe this election could go either way, and I’ve never felt that way in past elections. Now I know all the polls are pointing to Obama, but you just can’t really count out McCain just yet. Most people really never tell the truth who they just voted for or are going to vote for. So as far as I’m concerned, who cares what polls say. I wish they would make a law against polling people on whom they voted for or going to vote for. If you think about it, Obama is smashing McCain in the polls, so this may motivate people to come out and vote for McCain. And most of Obama supports will stay home thinking they don’t have to vote, because someone else will. So if there was a law against polling will never know until all the votes are counted. Am I wrong for thinking this way, I don’t think so. I think more people would vote to make sure their candidate wins. Anyway, polls are closing right now and the results will be coming in. If you didn’t vote, you can’t complain for the next 4 years.
